Yesterday I went to the store to try finding a pair of jeans because the pair I've been wearing all the time have a hole in a bad spot, and if it gets bigger it's going to cause issues. So I went to the mall and decided to try on several pairs of jeans from different brands.... none of which were my normal favorite brand by the way.
At Penney's I tried on several pairs of pants from both Lee and Levis. While the size 10's (same size I had on by the way) fit okay, they caused something I can only describe as muffin tops poking over the sides. Now, the pair of jeans I've been wearing are size 10's and they are very loose to the point of nearly falling off... However, the size 8's in that brand are a bit too tight as yet, so I'm stuck there. I also noticed that mid rise is lower rise than it used to be. The jeans I've been wearing are mid rise, and come up higher than the ones I was trying on.
Dissatisfied with the way the Lees and Levi's fit and caused those unsightly bulges, I decided to try my luck at Old Navy. I tried on two styles of jeans there The Dreamer and The Sweetheart. In The Dreamer I have to wear a 12 to not have those unsightly bulges over the sides and front. But, the pants are sort of loose otherwise. In The Sweetheart, I can wear a size 10, but I get those awful bulges over the sides and I hate that. The 12's in that particular cut are too large and the 10's too small. I finally settled on The Dreamer..... in a size 12.
What bugs me is I've lost weight and should thus fit into smaller sizes, or so one would suppose. Instead I somehow managed to go UP a size..... How the heck does that happen? Why are the sizes on jeans and pretty much every other type of clothing seeming to get smaller and smaller? I know that at my current weight I am about 8 pounds from fitting into a size 8 in my normal brand of jeans, yet in the brand/styles sold by Old Navy and Penney's I am in a size LARGER, not a size smaller than the prior pair of jeans. What's going on here?
Why do I not fit into smaller sizes or at least the same size as before when my weight has been steadily (more or less anyway) trending downwards? I'm not approaching 200 pounds anymore, and yet I am approaching the sizes I wore at that time.... What gives? Also, one terrible trend I've noted..... I am too small for the "plus size" stores like Lane Bryant and Torrid, but I can't quite shop at the regular and popular stores like JCPenney's, Gap, Old Navy, Forever 21 and so on..... I have to wear sizes at these stores that should put me in the plus department, but when I try the clothes on at the plus size stores they are too big.... Seriously? So basically I can't wear any clothes until I am rail thin like that stupid ideal everyone seems to hold in such high esteem? That's such a load of bull!
One, I am simply not built that way. Two, real women have curves!
